Miranda Ceara @ The Odd Fellows Orchestra
Miranda Ceara & The Odd Fellows Orchestra reimagine the sounds of prewar jazz, blues, and calypso, weaving them together to create an original and entirely modern cabaret-noir of brass, strings, and rhythm, all tied together by Miranda’s unique song writing and vocal delivery.
The Odd Fellows are: Miranda Ceara (Vocals, Banjo), Corey Pool (Drums), Oscar Evans (Trumpet), James Arif (Sousaphone)

Fieldstone Reverie
Fieldstone Reverie are a folk-rock band from Québec. Fronted by two songwriters with distinct musical sensibilities, their open-hearted, alt-country-inflected songs tackle themes as varied as regional history and apocalypses (both big and small).
Their debut album, The Wilderness Inside, offers socially conscious meditations on crumbling worlds and the possibility of redemption

Ryan McNally & MacMillan Camp Boys
While he’s best known for his interpretative playing of traditional acoustic blues and old time music, audiences can’t help but notice the influence that Northern living has had on his musical style. For the past 15 years McNally has called Whitehorse, YK his home.
Originally from Rockburn in rural southern Quebec, Ryan first discovered jazz and blues by uncovering a huge collection of ‘78 records that belonged to his grandfather. Then, as a teen, his curiosity for the sound and history anchored his love for the genres and it’s only grown stronger since.
McNally has become known for his diversity as a multi-instrumentalist. He plays guitar, harmonica, mandolin, violin and banjo, all in many different styles. Whether performing solo or with his band, his music is grounded in the legacy of the generations of players that came before him. All the while he continues to push the boundaries of his own signature sound.
The McMillan’s Camp Boys’ vast repertoire of traditional bluegrass and old-time music has been captivating audiences across Canada. The duo’s no-frills guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle playing, alongside their tight vocal harmonies, have led them to share the stage with acclaimed artists like Juno-nominated Mama’s Broke and Nadine Landry & Sammy Lind of Foghorn Stringband. Their newest EP “So Long To The Kicking Horse Canyon and Other Folk Songs” is out now on Dartmouth’s Big Turnip Records.

Genevieve Charbonneau & Jeremy Walsh
We're thrilled to be kicking off our 2nd season of house concerts with none other than our good friends from Vancouver Island who will be in Montreal for the Folk Alliance conferance.
Genevieve Charbonneau (Heartwood, Genevieve and the Wild Sundays) and Jeremy Walsh (Scruj Macduhk, Jeremy Walsh Band) are award-winning songwriters from Vancouver Island, Canada. Genevieve and Jeremy have recently come together to form the folk-pop trio (with Stephanie Cutler) Firebird, thrilling audiences with their gorgeous harmonies and catchy, well-crafted songs. Genevieve’s adventures in eco-homesteading, parenting and love, and Jeremy’s explorations into Irish traditional music and Canadian blue-collar life have formed the foundation of their musical co-adventures together. Both are engaging, energetic performers and their honesty, wisdom and humor form the backbone of their live show.
Genevieve’s 2023 single “Symphony of Sorrow” placed in the top three of the Folk category in the International John Lennon Songwriting Competition. “Down Down Down” won the 2017 BC Musicians Songwriters Contest and was a finalist in the 2017 International Acoustic Music Awards. Jeremy was winner of 2007 Songwriter of the Year at Vancouver Island Music Awards, and a collaborator on Scruj Macduhk’s Juno Award nominated album ‘Road to Canso’, which won Best Roots Album and Best Independent Album at the Canadian Prairie Music Awards in 2000.

SENIN PORTECOIS + D'JEF

New guidelines:
1. Keep Songs Simple: This is about having fun as a group. Choose songs with 3-4 chords with predictable structures.
2. Know Your Song: Memorize the chord sequence and/or lyrics. Reading from a book prevents you from connecting with the group.
3. Come Prepared: Have a few songs ready to go BEFORE arriving at the jam. Visualize how you will explain them to the group (Name, chords, timing, etc) and try to select familiar tunes.
4. Listen Hard, Play Soft!: Be aware of your volume and mindful of your neighbours. We're here to blend, not compete. Percussive elements should be kept to a minimum. When someone is taking a break (solo) the rest of the group should adjust their volume so we can hear the new focal point.
5. You're the boss (of your song): When leading, you should delegate who takes the leads (by nod, eye contact, name etc). Remember to go around the circle usually after a chorus and make eye contact with others players to see who's next. Decide when your song ends, the universal "foot in the air" can signal the last time around.
6. Respect the genre: Though "Old-Time & Bluegrass" may be difficult to pin-point as genres, don't stray too far from the general idea. Familiarity helps people connect more easily, don't be a jam buster by bringing something with 10 chords that nobody knows.
7. Have Fun! The ultimate goal is to share a good time and become better musicians.
